My Singapore impressions
In this article, I write about my impressions of Singapore. I hope this will be of help to you as you plan your trip and itinerary.
I travel to Singapore regularly because I have a daughter who works and lives there. Singapore never ceases to amaze me every time I touch down to this magnificent and majestic patch of the world, yes I will never have enough of this place. Singapore place is by and large orderly, neat and clean, environment friendly – modern amenities blend with nature everywhere- thick vegetation in the middle of the city where the birds freely fly unmindful of the buzzing peopled environment and the streams and canals are not clogged and are not polluted , the system works, traffic flows smoothly, and crimes, even petty ones is a rarity. My daughter can come home in the wee hours of the morning without being afraid of being mugged or harmed.
The impressive welcome at Changi Airport
Flying to Singapore is easy as there are handful of flights coming from Manila, Cebu and Kalibo (Boracay). First time travelers and returning guests always remain in awe with Changi Airport. On it’s own, it can even be some sort of tourist attraction, and a model worth emulating the world over.
Upon deplaning and as you line up for immigration until you exit the terminal, no one along the way will hassle you to solicit to carry your bags or negotiate to offer their car transfer services. You are free to go on at your own pace without harrasment. The airport is a city within a city. Inside the airport a green lush vegetation is thriving with rare orchids blooming all year round. Yet you will marvel that a mall like environment is the theme within, with clean and working amenities. The restrooms are fully stacked with toiletries and sparking clean and smelling good all the time. The airport terminal is user friendly and equipped with walkalators and monorails and trams to make movement specially the elderly and handicapped ever easy.
You will continue to be awestruck as you start your way out of the airport when your sight will be dominated with forest like vegetation all along the way even if you traverse the middle of busy districts. This is the reason why Singapore is known as the garden city of the world. A visitor will hardly see garbage in Singapore or decaying tree or plant or a patch of brown bush.
Getting around Singapore
Singapore is one country that has a modern and fully developed land transportation system and network in the world. Their MRT is efficient, well maintained and trustworthy in terms of safety and punctuality and ease of use. And so also with their bus rapid transit system. The taxis are manned with neat and respectable looking drivers who can deliver you to any point in Singapore with a legitimate address. Anyone who can read and can speak a decent English language will be able to find his way anywhere in Singapore with the least of anxiety and cost.
Singapore is a highly developed urban city with countless skyscrapers dominating the business district landscape and elsewhere. Their architecture is a sight to behold and the enormity and massiveness sometimes defies the imagination. To further boggle your imagination it is hard to figure out how they have succeeded in interconnecting many buildings with subterranean network of roads and passages with commercial activities underneath, such that an underground city emerges in itself. Amazing!
Shopping in Singapore
Singapore is considered as one of the best shopping paradise in the world. And it is almost a crime so to speak, if you visit Singapore from Cebu or Manila without even going as window shopping at least. Shopping is always a must in the itinerary of anyone who wants to enjoy a good Tour Package to Singapore. The best time to shop in Singapore is during their annual Great Singapore Sale mostly from May to July. At the very least if your time is limited you should spend a day at the iconic shopping street the Orchard road where you will find the biggest names of multi national brands in fashion like Prada, Gucci, Abercrombie and Fitch, Christian Dior, displaying their latest trend. Of course it is not only in Orchard but practically all over the island of Singapore you will find a mall with the best bargains of the world.
On the other hand, if you want to go beyond the branded goods, visit Bugis or cultural enclaves like Little India, Kampong Glam and Chinatown to get trinkets you can bring back home and give to your friends and family. In almost all MRT stations, there are malls and mom-and-pop shops selling a caboodle of goods like bags, accessories, shirts. Along the way, you may get hungry though you need not fret as there are many food stalls to satiate your appetite.

Culture buffs will have a field day during their trip to Singapore because the country, small as it is, is a host to various cultural enclaves and home to Singaporean Chinese, Malay and Indians alike. There are also a lot of foreigners who have made Singapore their second home already, working or having a business there.
For those who have time, take walking tours around Chinatown, Kampong Glam and Little India to get a glimpse of the three major cultures that make up Singapore. Appreciate how the architecture varies from place to place, and do not forget to sample authentic food.
